My Personal PTSD Story

A blog by (Det.) Dave Baumhover

In March of 2019 I was diagnosed with acute PTSD subsequent to leading the investigation into a family annihilation perpetrated by (inmate) Chris Watts.

Through therapy I’ve learned the Watts case wasn’t the cause of my PTSD but rather the final straw, as it were.

The point of this blog is to share my story with hope it will help others struggling and to help break the stigma surrounding mental health care & wellness of 1st responders.

Although I don't consider myself a bible beater I will discuss how my career drew me away from my faith and how the Watts case later renewed my faith in God! If that offends you I suggest you stop here.

Ephesians 6:17, NIV: Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
